LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The Zambia National Farmers Union – ZNFU has implored small scale farmers in the country to move from rain-fed to start using irrigation in view of the unfavourable rains.
Most farmers in Zambia depend on rains for farming and the feasible reduction in rains in the recent years has resulted in poor yield affecting a number of households especially those whose source of livelihood is agriculture.
This year is not exceptional as most parts of the country did not receive enough rains thereby threatening the country’s food security.
ZNFU Public Relations Manager Calvin Kaleyi says irrigation must be taken seriously by the country for the agriculture sector to perform better amidst climatic conditions.
Mr Kaleyi indicated that technology in agriculture should be promoted for small scale farmer to have robust yields.
